ABSTRACT:
For body composition assessment of adults and children as well, we usually use Body Mass Index (BMI). If BMI is increased, for some reason, above normal values, then preconditions for many diseases occur. It is important to determine BMI in the young age in order to prevent certain diseases. The aim of this research was to determine BMI and eating habits and according to determined state, consider performance of necessary preventive activities. The research included 782 respondents (368 boys and 414 girls). Respondents are younger pupils (first to third grade) within 13 Municipalities in Tuzla Canton. Applying standard procedures we measured body mass and body height and using these results we calculated BMI as well as percentile values. Nutrition habits were tested by means of conducted survey with 8 questions. Results obtained allude there is a certain issue related to increase in body weight and poor diets.
