ABSTRACT:
Church of Redemptor Mundi is a catholic church which has a Javanese style of design in Dukuh Kupang Barat I no 7 Surabaya. In the church encyclopedia it was said that catholic church was not separated from inculturation, a process in which a religion adapts to the local culture. This fact becomes the base of the every arrangement decided in the church, while also considering the church liturgy. The aim of this research is to identify the phyisical elements of the church of Redemptor Mundi that has undergone inculturation with the Javanese culture, and to identify the elements that contain the same meaning with the liturgy and thus they equally support themselves as symbols in the Catholic church. Though this research, it was found that not all of the physical elements in Redemptor Mundi church, have undergone inculturation. The elements that do not have similar meaning are only used decoration to show the existence of Javanese culture in the church.
