ABSTRACT:
The successful of Chinese businesses is mostly because of domination of Chinese businessmen or traders in market. This article tries to recognize the role of social capital in dominating the market of a product in one area. In analyzing social capital, it will describe the social network of a successful Chinese in Palembang city. Then, after investigating his social network, the analysis will continue to analyze the benefit of this social network by exploring the kind of resources or capital which can be gathered by the member of this social network. By conducting this kind of analysis, this article identify that this Chinese have been exploited his social network which is consisted of family, friend, business, and other networks to gather various kind of resources or capital such as financial, market information, market sharing, and controlling the price. All of these resources could be getting by the member of the networks easily without needs any compensation or fees. However, there are some social investments which need to be provided by the individual to be accepted in the networks.
