ABSTRACT:
For three prepared hydrous ceria ssamples, it was found that the surface properties can be affected by the preparation procedure details. A substantial crystallinity improvement occurs at 400 degree centigrade. Infrared and capacity data show that OH condensation starts at 100 degree centigrade and that water moleculess are involved in ion exchange. Surface structure, and not surface area, is the factor determining the capacity. The acidity and basicity decrease with heating temperature.
