ABSTRACT:
The volume contains papers from the Prague workshop "Ausbildung im Adel" (Education of the Nobility, November 2004), which dealt with the changes in the education of the nobility in the 18th century. The papers are divided into four groups: Ideas, Institutions, Practice and Nobility and Sciences. The first group follows the theories of education and the reception of rousseauism in the Habsburg monarchy, the second one deals with noble students at noble academies and universities in the Age of Enlightenment, the third group focuses on the private education in aristocratic families and the last one discusses cases of nobles who engaged in sciences or had contacts to important philosophers of the Enlightenment.
