ABSTRACT:
The labour market in Oltenia generally reflects the nažional tendencies. The high unemployment rate in the region reflects the existence of unemployment on a log term, especially with young people and regarding certain disfavoured groups. As a great number of industrial enterprises are yet to be privatized in the region, severe tensions on the labour market are expected in the following years. The late industrial restructuring has been one of the major causes of the increase of unemployment in Oltenia, even though the impact has been partially balanced by the massive employment in agriculture. The different weight of these factors probably explains most of the differences between counties. The lack of development perspectives and the insufficient number of newly created workplaces affects the entire region.
