ABSTRACT:
This paper examines a number of lexical and sociolinguistic characteristics of Indian Writing in English, as illustrated by extracts from novels
by R.K. Narayan, Anita Desai, Anita Nair and Amitav Ghosh.

It was given as part of the encounter 'Writers' Meet' at JNU University, Delhi, in the presence of IWE scholar Antonia Navarro Tejero and novelist Kiran Nagarkar.

It was later published in a revised version, in 2008, in JSL, a journal of JNU (see separate getcited entry). The text at the URL above is that of the revised version.
