The purpose of this paper is two-fold: on the one hand, it emerges from the wish to foster interest in Indian contributions to literary and translation culture and, on the other, it specifically aims at paying tribute to the offerings given by Prof. P. Lal in the course of a whole life. As poet, scholar, transcreator or educationist, P. Lal has always shown that his great passion is creativity.
Both in literary and translation studies we seem to move around a Eurocentric orbit that broadly forgets any tradition of literature and translation theory and practice outside it. The hegemonic position of Western literary theory is undeniable. It is a pity to note the lack of communication between literary traditions and the fact that proper attention is not being given to what diverse literary cultures could give us.
