DESCRIPTION:
Thie was a 30-minute TV broadcast on 20 April 1962 based the paper "Preparing a Lesson for a Man-Machine Environment to Elicit Learning of Manipulative Tasks by Exceptional Yound Adults" published 7 December 1961. This was the CBS network station KNXT in Los Angeles.
How it was possible in 1962 to produce a 16mm sound film from a television broadcast since video taping was a rarity and the VCR and VHS video tape hadn't been invented yet? VHS video tape was first introduced in 1976 but before that KNXT (CBS) in 1962 was able to video record on their costly laboratory machine. As it turned out, the program in which Dr. Silvern appeared had been video recorded by their laboratory and he had them produce a kinescope from their tape in 1962. A kinescope (16mm black and white sound film) originally was used to record live television broadcasts prior to the invention of the video recorder. In this instance, CBS had made a kinescope from their video tape which by itself was an innovative method in 1962.
This DVD is part of Dr. Silvern's memoirs entitled : "The Silvern Story 1956-1962 Hughes Aircraft Company Chapter Twenty: Videosonic Systems"
Dr. Silvern had this kinescope converted to a DVD-R in 2005 by Fuji, entitled "Learning 1962". It can be obtained from Dr. Silvern at Education and Training Consultants Co, Systems Engineering Laboratories.
