EDITORIAL STATEMENT:
Examines 15 prominent motivation and leadership theories by surveying 127 Academy of Management and American Psychological Association Division 14 members. The perceived value of the theories was assessed with a variety of scientific and practitioner criteria. Behavior modification received the highest rating, followed by Goal Setting, Expectancy theory, Social Learning theory, and Equity theory. Results suggest that goals, expectancies, social learning, participation, enriched jobs, and reinforcements motivate people.
