ABSTRACT:
Systems of lateral/collateral fraternal succesion to ruling thrones was wide-spread across Eurasia. The Rus' "rota" or "lestvichnaia" system, often viewed as borrowed from the Turkic world, has parallels beyond the Turkic world in Eurasia. In addition, the comitatus system, the father-tutor (atabeg-kormilets) etc. are also widespread across the region.
