ABSTRACT:
A current philosophical trend (radical constructivism - Maturana, Varela) tries to discredit the objective reality of the experienced world and to describe the human self as a detached universe left to its own wishes and phantasies. In this vein, a recent attempt to reduce organic functioning to the principle of self-regulation has suggested an affinity to Gestalt theory. Such an analogy, however, risks to misinterpret the basic epistemological attitude of Gestalt psychology's founders.
