ABSTRACT:
Kothari, T., & Hu, C. (2004). Investigating e-procurement in a chain hotel: An exploratory analysis using case study methodology. In J. A. Abbott (Ed.), Proceedings of the 9th Annual Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism, January 6-8, Houston, TX (pp. 390-400). Houston, TX: University of Houston.

As the lodging sector evolves into a more technology oriented industry, the need of understanding e-Procurement practices becomes more important and it warrants an explorative study to further advance the knowledge body of existing procurement models. The main purpose of this study was to understand the challenges faced by the decision makers at the chain hotel company in its adoption and implementation of e-Procurement. The overall consensus seems to suggest that once the remaining uncertainties are reduced to levels that encourage significant resource commitments, the benefits of e-Procurement are expected to accelerate the rate of adoption of these technologies. A variety of Longitudinal and Replication Case studies involving interactions among all market participants are necessary to continuously identify technology requirements, to develop systems that provide bottom-line value, and thus to provide incentives for e-Procurement adoption by all parties.
