ABSTRACT:
This heavily hyperlinked article compares Virtual Learning Environments such as WebCT with Virtual Learning Communities such as Tapped In. VLCs sustain personal and professional collaborative relationships over time, whereas VLEs tend to be short term classroom management tools only. VLCs offer the potential to break down academic walls as students of the future may have the potential to collaborate with others in VLCs outside of their own brick and mortar institutions. There are also links to create one's own educational Multi-User Virtual Environment (MUVE) using freeware.
