ABSTRACT:
In times of Academic excess and theoretical quicksand in architectural and urban discourse, rarely do we see an event that nicely combines an alternative vehicle of expression, providing new viewpoints on city speech, the urban discourse, and a leisure scape within the same frame. Such event was the “Urban Drift“ Festival, which was held in Berlin this month. The Café Moskau, a Karl-Marx-Allee leftover of pre-1989 ‘behind the wall’ Berlin (with a résumé that goes from Comunist splendor to Wallpaper* Magazine reviews), was the container of this happening (more than a festival), and Think Tank (more than a conference); which kicked off on the night of Oct. 10 with the ‘Night Space’ event: An evening alternative space featuring more casual presentations, readings, slide shows and DJ performances within the ‘drift’, the on-going motto impulsing this event on its second edition, iniciated by Berlin-based architectural curator Francesca Ferguson...
