ABSTRACT:
This reader is a compilation of 10 influential contributions from 15 acclaimed authors. In sum their contributions add to a deeper understanding of strategizing - the complex, contextual interplay that takes place within firms, outside firms, and between firms. Each contribution presents an alternative framework, which can be used to analyze strategizing.
Within the scope of this reader strategizing is conceptualized as a phenomenon emerging 1) in interplay between individuals and occupational groups within firms; 2) in interplay between competing and co-operating firms across markets; and 3) within a broader institutional context, guided and constrained by institutionalized norms, rules, and laws.

Each contribution has proven to be classical in their own rights, within the disciplines of economics, organization theory, and sociology. Contributions by:

Michael H. Best
Richard M. Cyert & James G. March
Richard R. Nelson & Sidney G. Winter
Armen A. Alchian & Harold Demsetz
Oliver E. Williamson
Michael E. Porter
Jeffrey Pfeffer & Gerald R. Salancik
Paul J. DiMaggio & Walter W. Powell
Mark Granovetter
Richard D. Whitley

Associate professor, Ph.D, Claus Nygaard frames the contributions with an introductionary chapter on "Strategizing".
