ABSTRACT:
A field experiment was conducted involving 46 police sergeants (raters) and 152 police officer subordinates (ratees). It was hypothesized and found that behavior-based (BARS, BOS) performance appraisals and reviews (PARS) were superior to GRS-based PARS in terms of: goal properties and characteristics, user reactions, and subsequent job performance.
