ABSTRACT:
Evidence is reviewed demonstrating that merit pay (pay for performance) is a practicable and effective way to motivate, retain, and attract high performing employees. The evidence is also reviewed demonstrating that the everyone gets the same approach is a sure-fire way to de-energize an organization and accelerate turnover among high-performing individuals.
