ABSTRACT:
The comparison between the dependency approach, the social reform paradigm and the "military sociology" approach to growth, redistribution and social development in the world system from 1960 onwards shows the relevance of the socio-liberal reform paradigm. The study also shows the evolution of the social reform paradigm in Scandinavia before the Second World War, and discusses the relevance of the theories of Karl Polanyi.
