ABSTRACT:
WRITE ME A POEM is a very practical book for teachers interested in encouraging children to write poetry.
Children's experience of poetry is usually of rhyming poetry - consequently, when they start to write poetry they frequently sacrifice meaning and sense for rhyme. By exposing children to non-rhyming poetry many opportunities for young children to write emotionally charged poems without concern for rhyme, are presented to them.
WRITE ME A POEM presents ideas and strategies for having children write many types of poetry after they are first immersed in the particular poetry form, and observe demonstrations to show how that type of poetry might be written.
