ABSTRACT:
In little over a decade, lightweight radiotelemetric equipment has been designed and developed which measures heart rate accurately under free-living conditions. The rate of refinement of the heart rate monitor technology has far exceeded the rate at which the understanding of heart rate during exercise has improved. This brief paper lists the problems and questions that need to be addressed to improve our understanding and application of heart rate measured during exercise to optimise exercise prescription for health and sports performance.
