ABSTRACT:
Argues against the theory that sport cannot be defined because of the multiple meanings it carries as a concept. Utilizes two lines of argument which draw from Aristotle's theory of focal meaning. Contends that to state that sport is an ambiguous concept rests on an oversimplistic theory. By introducing Aristotles's theory of focal meaning, this allows the author to treat sport in a non-ambiguous way by tracing the systematic interconnection of its various meanings.
