ABSTRACT:
Argues that Paul Weiss' contention that Greek philosophers failed to deal with sport and athletics, presented in his book Sport: A Philosophic Inquiry (1969) is not accurate. Suggests that Plato did have a wide range of opinions concerning sport. Looks at Plato's views concerning athletics and education, sophistry, the structure of athletic contests and their use for military training.
