ABSTRACT:
This article presents philosophical questions about the ethics of drug use in sport. Examines processes supposedly capable of enhancing athletic competence, and questions relating to how the athlete can cheat. Analyzes the relationship among factors involved in competition: the quality of performance, the amount and severity of training, the risk of injury and pain and the temptation to seek shortcuts. Discusses two other general considerations: fairness and health. Delimits the class of items and their interplay with the above factors.
