ABSTRACT:
Reviews Jane English's (1978) view of sexual equality in athletics which differentiates between basic and scarce athletic benefits. Basic benefits are those available to everyone, and scarce benefits only to the elite (eg. fame, fortune). Argues against English's contention that women have a justifiable demand for equal coverage and prize money and focuses on her claim that this is necessary in order to maintain the self-respect of women.
