ABSTRACT:
In a continuing discussion (for Part 1, see SA 37:1/89U1718) of the relevance of the modernist-postmodernist debate to organizational analysis, it is argued that the work of Michel Foucault suggests alternative ways of approaching problems & ordering material. A threefold periodization of his work is presented, encompassing the archeaological period, the genealogical period, & finally, his concern for ethics. Ideas & concepts drawn from his writings are utilized to reorder organizational theory, particularly with respect to the debate concerning organizational heterogeneity vs homogeneity, the importance of "total institutions", organizational control of sexuality, & the role of new technologies in organizational control systems. 1 Figure, 46 References.
