ABSTRACT:
Part of a special issue on the 1994 Ruffin lectures. Stakeholder capitalism envisions a world in which business and ethics are inextricably linked, in which values and virtues are a part of corporate life, and in which hopelessness and despair are replaced by a solidarity that springs from the joint achievement of shared goals. People should expect the best from companies, seeing capitalism as part of the solution to the problems of hopelessness and despair.
