ABSTRACT:
Based on expert opinion an instrument detailing the form of the jump shot was developed. Intramural male college basketball players (n = 32) performed three jump shots each at 13 ft and 20 ft from the basket. Four raters independently rated the jump shots using the jump-shooting instrument. Inter-rater reliability was assessed by computing intraclass correlation coefficients on the ratings of the four racers for each item on the instrument. Reliability for the entire instrument was computed using coefficient alpha. The analyses indicated the instrument was reliable. Furthermore, correlations between the instrument scores and additional measures of shooting performance indicated the instrument shows promise as a tool to examine the relationship between form and performance.
