ABSTRACT:
We investigated changes in the Japanese perception of foreign nations due to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and identified variables affecting these changes, through a panel study of Japanese undergraduate students. Results showed that the level of positive feelings toward foreign nations generaly increased during the Olympics, and the increased level declined three months later but was still higher than that measured before the Olympics. They also showed that the level of positive feelings toward nations whose performance was excellent more greatly increased during the Olympics, but this increase was not found if the nations were similar to Japan.
