ABSTRACT:
A common concern frequently addressed in the sport science literature is the relationship between participation in various forms of physical activity and psychological well-being. This association is virtually always coached in positive terms, that is, participation in various facets of physical activity is believed to be directly linked to subjective perceptions of well-being. The results of the present inquiry conclude that the link between physical involvement and well-being is modest at best. Therefore, the social policy makers and the public in general may erroneously perceive the effect of physical activity on well-being as more auspicious than, in fact, it is.
