ABSTRACT:
During the 1992-93 basketball season the Western Michigan University (WMU) men and women basketball teams played their "home" games at five different locations while a new facility was being constructed. This situation allowed for the study of the influence of a home court as a determiner of the home advantage. Results showed that the home advantage held for both the WMU men and women teams and was stronger than for the conference as a whole. The findings support earlier studies that also suggest that familiarity with a home facility is not as important as other variables that accompany the more expanded concept of home territory rather than home court.
