ABSTRACT:
In 1971 McNair, Lorr and Droppleman published the Profile of Mood States. It was intended to measure the mood states of people undergoing counseling. Since then it was introduced into the field of sport psychology with the pioneering work of William Morgan. This paper summarizes the characteristics of the research that has been done in this area. More specifically, the analyses include examining the journals publishing POMS articles, popular sports in this research, productive authors, a gender analysis, and a descriptive timeline of POMS research.
