ABSTRACT:
Numerous empirical investigations have focused upon discrimination in sports. This study focuses upon an area of the sociology of sport that has been ignored in such inquiries: the role of race/ethnicity in salary arbitration outcomes. The central research query was to find out what influence, if any, race/ethnicity play in this process. Race-ethnicity and the outcome of arbitration were examined within the context of other theoretically relevent variables. Although not all multivariate tables were statistically significant, there is some evidence that there may be discriminatory processes operating in salary arbitration.
