ABSTRACT:
Six junior swimmers from the Bahrain National Team volunteered to swim 50 meters (m) using a freestyle stroke. The temporal structure was compared between competitive and noncompetitive sprints. Times and stroke pattern were recorded and evaluated at 10 m intervals. A kinematic evaluation revealed that stroke mechanics were disturbed by competition which was reflected as an irregular stroke cadence during races between paired swimmers.
