ABSTRACT:
The Sport Attributional Style Scale (SASS) is a questionnaire which measures sport-related attributional style along the five dimensions of internality, stability, globality, controllability, and intentionality for both positive and negative events. Previous studies have shown that the SASS has good construct validity, inter-item reliability, and test-retest reliability. This paper presents additional psychometric data for the scale. Specifically, studies are reported that (a) confirm the test-retest reliability of the SASS with a time lag similar to that examined for other attributional style scales, (b) investigate the relationship of the SASS to an existing measure of general attributional style, (c) examine the consistency between responses to hypothetical events on the SASS and responses to actual athletic situations, and (d) determine that the factor structure and inter-item reliability of the SASS are maintained when the respondants are athletes from outside the university environment.
