ABSTRACT:
The present study focused on the socialization patterns of high school subjects, relative to sport related activities. The results indicated that very little social interaction between Blacks and Whites occur during or away from team related activites. The implications of this study are that interracial social interaction habits that exist in later life may in fact have been firmly established at the high school level, if not earlier. Examines the interactions of white and black athletes with other ethnic groups away from team practices or games, and during team practices or games. Subjects were 117 male varsity high school athletes who completed a questionnaire designed to determine the extent of inter and intra-social interaction both on and off the field. Finds little interaction between blacks and whites either at team related activities or away from team related activities.
