ABSTRACT:
The article describes the Sports Competitive Trait Inventory (SCTI). The SCTI is composed of 17 items with a seven-point rating scale. The validity and reliability of the SCTI was tested using 389 high school and university students. The SCTI was found to be both valid and reliable over a seven to nine week period. Develops an instrument to measure competitiveness in sport. The Sports Competitive Trait Inventory comprises 17 items with a seven point rating scale. Test-retest reliability over a seven to nine week period revealed no change in the subjects' competitiveness within three different competitive environments. Construct validity was determined by SCTI's relationship with personality dispositions which do or do not contribute to the development of competitiveness. Concludes that the instrument is suitable for males and females across many sports.
