ABSTRACT:
This study synthesizes Morris' book and John Loy's taxonomy of sport. The authors believe the combination of these two works reveals a need for sport sociologists to produce a sports paradigm. Provides a synthesis of the Morris book (THE SOCCER TRIBE) and Loy's definitional classification of sport. Suggests that such a synthesis encourages sport sociologists to formulate a sports paradigm. Argues that Morris' field study of international soccer suggests a revision of the perceptual lense through which the study of sport passes.
