ABSTRACT:
The effect of situation criticality (i.e., being ahead or behind) on the performance of males and females on a muscular endurance leg task against a same-sex competitor was investigated. Subjects who were told they were "behind" performed significantly better than subjects who thought they were ahead. No sex differences were found for performance or attribution all it was hypothesized that these differences would occur.
