ABSTRACT:
This paper examines a theoretical relationship between competition and aggressive behavior in sport. Five psychosocial factors within competition are proposed that are likely to be responsible for the aggression-inducing effect of competition, including: the frustration-aggression hypothesis; referees; degree of physical contact; instrumental learning; and attribution theory.
