ABSTRACT:
The purpose of this study was to develop a comparative profile of the participants in running and racquetball. A questionnaire survey showed that athletes in both sports were similar in age and education, previous involvement in sport, attitudes toward sport, orientation toward work and leisure, and commitment to physical fitness. Runners viewed themselves as less athletic but in better physical condition. Racquetball players were more competitive and considered the social side of sport as more attractive. Develops a comparative psychosocial profile of adult participants in running and racquetball. Collected data through questionnaires which measured attitudes toward sport, orientation toward work and leisure, interest in health and physical fitness and general life satisfaction. Results indicated similarities in age, education, spectator involvement, previous sport involvement, number of hours involved, attitude toward sport, work and leisure orientation and commitment to physical fitness. Runners viewed themselves as less athletic but in better physical condition, whereas racquetball players were more competitive and were involved for social reasons.
