ABSTRACT:
Suggests some possible future directions for applied sport psychological research. Presents evidence that an internal locus of control is related to competitive success and the apparent causal links are emphasized. Similarities between success in sport and academia are noted and it is stressed that locus of control is a modifiable feature of personality. Places locus of control within social learning theory and outlines implications for coaches, administrators and researchers.
