ABSTRACT:
The model presented poses an attributional framework for conceptualizing and investigating interpersonal conflict in the coach-athlete relationship. Central to the model is the apparent divergency often recorded between actors' and observers' percpetions of behavior. The position taken is that these differences, both informational and motivational, are influenced by several individual difference variables, and that under certain circumstances these antecedents stimulate conflict. The model is complete only after considering the consequences of conflict and demonstrating the dynamic relationship of its component parts. Both theoretical and practical implications are inherent in the structure of the model. Model poses an attributional framework for conceptualizing and investigating interpersonal conflict in coach-athlete relationships. Central to the model are the difference, both informational and motivational, created by the athlete's and coach's perceptions which under certain circumstances could stimulate conflict. Both theoretical and practical implications are inherent in the structure of the model.
