ABSTRACT:
In this study American college football is analyzed to determine the extent to which the sport is moving toward a more equitable system. It focuses upon two types of sports discrimination: stacking and unequal opportunity. Stacking refers to situations in which minority group members are relegated to specific team positions and excluded from others. Unequal opportunity for equal ability compares assumed preseason starters to non-starters by race and position. The findings suggest the persistence of racism in American sport and suggests additional stages of research in the area. Significance of physical culture in China is examined historically. Shows the transition of play from frivolous activity, to a means of resocializing the value structure of the people. Shows how modeling and contrast has oriented the citizenry to the new values of the modern era.
