ABSTRACT:
Discusses a framework which may be employed in the analysis of sport subcultures. Their structure and culture are analyzed with reference to such elements as values, norms, roles and technology. Suggests that sport behaviour is but a manifestation of more universal forms of human conduct. Analyzes formal positions, prestige, hierarchies and different subgroups within sport. Several key concepts were identified which may be theoretically and empirically useful in the study of sport subcultures.
