ABSTRACT:
The authors used 77 undergraduate students (55 males and 22 females) to compare three methods for acquiring and retaining golf putting skill: (a) relaxation, visualization, and body rehearsal intervention (rvr); (b) traditional repetition; (c) a combination of the two. Subjects were divided in three experimental groups (n, 55) and one control group (n, 22). The rvr type cognitive intervention was as effective as traditional practice in acquiring a motor skill, and a combination of the two methods was superior compared to using the methods separately. The significant learning retention levels demonstrated by the rvr groups was the most notable finding of this study.
