ABSTRACT:
The purpose of this study was to ascertain the job responsibilities and essential characteristics of intercollegiates athletic directors (ADs) and to solicit their recommendations for a graduate program in athletic administration. Three hundred twenty (ADs) completed a questionnaire designed to fulfil the purpose of the study. The results indicate that rankings of job responsibilities were primarily influenced by the competitive level (division) of the program administered. At present, male ADs appear to have a higher level of preparation for their job than do females ADs.
