ABSTRACT:
This study investigates how children remember distance (route) and location (landmark) information in a large scale environment. The results indicate that children remember location information better than distance information, and older children recall both types better than younger children. The spontaneous use of memory strategies increases with age. The authors conclude that information about distance and location is encoded in the memory in the same way; whether the task is large or small scale.
