ABSTRACT:
Twenty elite distance runners (8 marathon, 12 middle-long distance) and eight good runners were studied. The variables studied were maximum oxygen consumption, submaximum oxygen consumption, lactic acid submaximum, lean body weight and fat weight. The results showed that the good runners differed from the elite runners in general physiological efficiency while the elite marathon runners differed from the elite middle-long distance runners in lower lactic acid submaximum values and lower maximum oxygen consumption values.
