ABSTRACT:
This study examined the degree to which attitudes toward disabled persons could be changed by equal status and close personal contact with one physically disabled person. 41 undergraduate students from a university setting participated in instructional racquetball. The students were divided into two classes with one class being conducted with a paralyzed female student participating. Analysis of data from the Attitude Toward Disabled Persons Scale and a survey questionnaire revealed significant differences between the experimental and control group on two variables relating to the degree of disabled integration in sports and recreation settings.
